Thoughts on more constructive thinking
Short testimony:
After I understood gossiping more clearly, I saw that I could be doing the same in many ways in my head. unforgiveness, anxiety, what ifs, and the wrong time to think about certain things have fallen under gossip in my head. These are vain, or idle thoughts. So as I was going to sleep at night it became a lot easier to rest on the promise that God gave the night to sleep; not for constant fretting over whatever problems I may or think I have.
Thesis passage:
2Co 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) (5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Supporting verses:
Isaiah 26:3-4, Psalm 46:10, Psalm 119:36-37, Philippians 4:4-8,Matthew 11:28-30, 2 Timothy 1:3-7, 1 John 4:18, Psalm 42, 2Co 3:18, proverbs 23:7
Passage to keep in mind:
2 Corinthians 12:1-10 (If it would be better for other's to see the strength of Christ and believe in Him, it is better to suffer pain for the gospel, than it would for receiving what we ask for ourselves only)
Thoughts on our focus:
Whatever we put our focus on, our attention is used to give us unnecessary worry, contentment, or complacency. If our focus is on ourselves, we tend to worry about us, our thoughts, our present circumstances or any number of things. If we focus on how we were wronged, we develop a spirit of hatred. If we focus on Christ and His love we would be changed more into His image; we will cherish and look at things as He saw them.
2Co 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Pro 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Isa 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
By having the mind focused on our problems all the time, we have very little if any trust to put in God's goodness, mercy and power. By making the mind's focus on the Lord and His will, all our problems will seem so small to us as we continue to grow in our knowledge of Him.
Our thesis passage would have us focus on the promises of God; we are not to live by bread alone, but by every word that came from His mouth. He wants to arm us with the promises He Has made, even the ones that deal particularly with our own situation. Psalm 46:10 for example has us know that God is completely in control. 2 Timothy 1:7 gives our focus that God grants us His Spirit that will cause fear to be cast out. He gives us power, love and a clear mind to see things as He sees them. He gave us His Spirit that we would not be afraid; that we would delight to do His will no matter the circumstances. As I want to keep this short, (as I want to encourage investigation), I will end this with a call to ask God for a deeper knowledge of the Cross and of His great love for our family. If we ask Him for that honestly each day, I have no doubts that He will answer this great need that is so lacking in many of our lives. If we continue to get to know Him, we shall know the truth, and the truth shall make us free. May God bless the readers.
